A “success story” that revolves around one family that has been
significantly impacted by The Children’s Center.
The Children’s Center has been an exceptional resource for my family. It has provided us with guidance, instruction and encouragement. We have watched our son Aaron blossom as a result of the wonderful environment and resources that The Children’s Center offers.
Shortly after Aaron was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, we were introduced to The Children’s Center through the Parrish Pediatric Rehabilitation program, which provided us with therapy services as part of the federally funded Early Intervention Program (EIP). The EIP services that we received were outstanding. They provided physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy using a creative and fun approach. At the same time, they taught us how to continue therapy at home. Our therapists went out of their way to identify Aaron’s individual needs and then target those areas that required extra attention. The effort of his entire EIP team really gave Aaron a great start in life.
We were excited to find out that Aaron was able to start The Parrish Early Care & Education Program at The Children’s Center at age 3. The teachers, aides, therapists, receptionists, office staff and volunteers do an amazing job with our son and his fellow students. It is heart-warming and inspiring to observe the preschool program in action.
Aaron’s siblings, Noah & Miranda, also love The Children’s Center. They attend the Respite Night program once a month with Aaron and think it is “fantastic”. Respite Night gives Noah & Miranda a chance to get to know other children with siblings that have special needs. They really enjoy the therapeutic playground and indoor gym. Our daughter refers to it as “Family Fun Night.” Now Noah attends The Parrish Early Care & Education Program each day and is gaining all sorts of knowledge as he gets ready for Kindergarten. Noah also receives speech therapy with the Parrish Pediatric Rehabilitation Program just like his brother Aaron.
Overall, The Children’s Center has given us the support we need to help our children reach for the stars, especially Aaron. It is a place where we can share and learn with other families who face similar challenges. We cannot thank you enough for your extraordinary facility and staff. Thank you so much. Karen Wurtz.
